Our science program offers students the opportunity to discover the wonders of the world around them through inquiry, experimentation, and observation. With the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, we are developing a curriculum which is rich in content and practice and arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. Throughout the school year, students develop a strong knowledge of the physical, earth, and life sciences. They apply knowledge of scientific concepts as they design and create experiments and test their hypotheses. As students are introduced to scientific reasoning and reporting, they apply critical thinking and communication skills.
Each grade level curriculum is designed to engage children in developmentally appropriate content and exciting investigations of scientific thought. In the early grades, students study states of matter, sound, and animals, including habitats, adaptations, classification, and food chains. In the upper grades students learn about inventions and scientific innovations, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and engineering. The science program culminates in Grade 6 with an inquiry-based science fair where students choose to investigate a scientific phenomenon that intrigues them, and develop a presentation to display their findings.
Run by Discovery Science Camp Director, Mandy Bolkin, and MIT Scientist, Polly Kim, science at Wise is a hands-on, interactive, and challenging program that incorporates ideas across all content areas. Our science team collaborates with our classroom teachers to for a well-rounded and thorough educational experience. Classes are conducted in our beautifully renovated Science Lab, which was generously donated by the Moradi family in 2013. Through the incorporation of SmartBoards, laptops, and high-tech learning tools, our team works hard to inspire a love of science in every student, as well as a true appreciation of the world around them.
