It was a great start to the athletic year for Stephen S. Wise Elementary School. The school fielded thirteen very competitive teams in both girls basketball and boys football. Due to the effort put in by both our coaching staffs and players, Wildcat Athletics was as dynamic as ever.

We had several of our football teams make strong championship or playoff runs. All of the students made strides in both their ability and knowledge of the game which will serve as a strong foundation in the coming years. Our 5 Blue team finished in second place in the San Fernando Valley Private School League and will be definitely considered a championship favorite next year as sixth graders.

Meanwhile, our girls basketball teams were dominant as ever! The fourth graders entered their first year of playing in after school athletics as a talented group and finished as a savvy group of individuals ready to contend for league titles with their newly refined skills. Our sixth grade girls never backed down from a challenge and the 6 White squad advanced to the playoffs. Meanwhile, it was the three fifth grade squads that stole the spotlight. The three teams each finished in the top three of their respective leagues and Head Coach Danny Herold’s White team went undefeated and earned the League Title. As a grade, the girls finished 14-3 overall. SFVPSL watch out in 2012!

The focus now turns to the winter season featuring girls soccer and boys basketball. We are all very excited to see what our Wildcat athletes do for an encore.
