Mrs. Baker graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of New Orleans. For 23 years, she taught in private and public schools.
Mrs. Baker is certified as a teacher of the gifted and as a teacher assessor and mentor. Since 1997 she has been a teacher/consultant for the National Geographic Society, and has been trained as a teacher trainer in CHEM, a special environmental program at the University of California at Berkeley. She serves as a consultant for TERC, a non profit research organization in Cambridge. In 1997 she was recognized as a Compaq Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Baker believes that children should be challenged to develop their potential and to become life-long learners. She encourages students to use higher level thinking skills, engage in hands-on activities, and work in cooperative groups.
