Robotics Club

Lego Robotics is an international Lego robot-building competition program, which has competition “leagues” for all age groups. We will be joining the First Lego League (FLL), for 9-14-year-olds. This program holds competitions each year, based on an annual challenge. The Challenge relates to a real-world issue that the world’s top scientists and engineers are studying, such as global warming and transportation. The students are challenged to do two things: 1) conduct and present research about the real-world problem and its solutions, or possible solutions; and 2) build an autonomous Lego robot which symbolizes some of the solutions from their research. This year’s team will focus on exploring the materials, experimenting with robot-making, and getting to know the FLL program. On occasion, we will have the exciting opportunity to work with students in the Milken robotics program. We will also have the option to attend competitions as spectators to prepare for competitive tournament entries in the following years.

Technology and Photography

This is an education program for students who want to learn the basic elements of filmmaking and digital photography. Using materials developed at the American Film Institute, students will learn how to use storyboards to develop their ideas, how to operate video cameras and how to use video editing software. In addition, students will learn to use digital cameras, the fundamentals of composition and lighting, and edit images.

Children who have an interest in technology, photography, photo-editing, video and video-editing will be good candidates for this program.
