Our wonderful school library is off and running with students going in to check out the newest books, does classroom research, or just relax with a favorite story. On our web-site under the academic section you can explore the library information to learn more about this outstanding resource. In the next couple of weeks your students will find out about the book clubs they can participate - the Newbery, Caldecott and Sydney Taylor Clubs. Every student who reads from these great works of literature is recognized in June at a library awards assembly where they are recognized for their achievements. Another great asset on our library tab is the link to two web-sites that are a treasure trove of information on recent books and DVDs for children and teens, and a booklist of recent books for adults. The research consistently shows that one of the primary means of increasing a child’s vocabulary and comprehension is consistent reading, and we are asking every student to read (or be read to) at least 15 minutes every night. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing our library, I highly encourage you to stop by, introduce yourself to Roberta Lloyd, and sit down with a great book – you won’t be disappointed.
