I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I look forward to sharing 2011 with all of you. As I walked through classrooms this week it was exciting to observe rigorous reading and math lessons, boys’ basketball and girls’ soccer practices, spring musical rehearsals, and rich discussions on Tu b’Shvat and the parsha of the week. It is amazing to see how quickly we get back to action in all areas of our campus.
With all of this forward movement it is important to reflect on where we are going. The Stephen S. Wise Schools, from the elementary to the Milken campus, are engaging in conversations on how we prepare our students for the future. As part of this conversation we are pleased to present you with an amazing opportunity to share with us the film “Race to Nowhere.” On our professional development day on January 18th , all Kindergarten – 12th grade teachers will watch the movie together and discuss how we are impacted as an institution. We are then presenting two evenings for our parents to see this outstanding movie and share their thoughts with a panel of experts. I highly encourage you to find the night that works for your schedule and make plans to attend this event. We are anticipating a sell out crowd and hope that you will sign up as soon as possible.
I thank you in advance for participating in the valuable opportunity and know we will all gain a great deal as a community from this.
