Our students love singing the song “Mitzvah Goreret Mitzvah” which means one mitzvah leads to another. We are making the concept of doing good deeds a part of who we are as a school community, and that value becomes engrained in who they are as people of the world. It was inspirational on Sunday to see our kids making blankets for the animal shelter, creating frames for senior citizens, decorating bags filled with supplies for homeless people, painting shirts and a canvas for the students at Dolores Street Mission, filling our new SOVA bins with food, making menorahs for Jewish soldiers and recording books in our computer lab for blind students. Each project was thoughtful, engaging and tied into the grade level curriculum and Hesed project. Additionally, the students understand that it’s not about one day of doing great activities. Every class will take a field trip or have a follow up to their project during the year. I want to thank the parents, teachers and students for their great participation in making this the most successful day ever.

This Thursday we will not have school as we take time to think about and share gratitude for the Veterans in our country. On Friday, our teachers become students as they attend an amazing day of professional development. We will have sessions on Cool Websites, Meeting the Needs of All Students, Student Talk, and Data Analysis. I look forward to sharing with you the professional growth that all of us as educators have to help enrich the daily experience for your children.
