This week many of our classes expanded their learning by leaving the walls of Stephen S. Wise Elementary School and using the city of Los Angeles as their classroom. Our Fifth Grade students went to the Reagan Museum where their knowledge of U.S. history really came alive. They loved seeing Air Force One, were very interested in the many roles that Ronald Reagan played in California and the United States, and found the Christmas Tree exhibit fascinating as it showed decades of American history through this icon. The very same day our Third Grade classes went to downtown LA, where they learned about the history of Los Angeles by taking a docent-led tour through The Avilla Adobe (the oldest house in LA), the first firehouse, and the plaza. The day culminated with an exciting scavenger hunt through the Olvera Street Market. A different kind of field trip happened on Tuesday when our 1st – 3rd Grade Chorus went to the Jewish Home to share Hanukkah music with the residents. The kids sang, danced, and spread their light and joy to a large audience, and brought together their love of music with their love of doing good deeds in the world. Once again, another full and fulfilling week at school!
As we prepare for our winter break I want to wish all of you a wonderful two weeks, with lots of fun family time, and a happy New Year!
See you at the Monday morning carpool on January 7th,
