One of my favorite programs in our school year is the wonderful day of Midor L'dor. It is magical to see our grandparents and special guests sharing time in the classroom with their children. I don't know who is more excited – and watching their faces light up with each interaction reminds me of the importance of sharing our stories. Next Wednesday we have a magnificent day planned for all of our families. Our guests will arrive to register at 9:00 a.m., join us for a cup of coffee and light breakfast, and then enter the sanctuary. Once the grandparents are seated, the students will come in to share songs, dances and videos with everyone. Then together they will go to the classrooms for an hour of learning and projects. At 12:30 our day will end and everyone can go home to prepare for their Thanksgiving holiday. This year promises to be extra special as we will all celebrate as one large community. Every child is encouraged to bring grandparents, aunts, uncles or parents with them. I am flying in my own two kids for the holiday and am hoping they can join me at school on Wednesday. The message I want them to know is that their great grandparents said "Hineini" when they left the Island of Rhodes to come to America, their grandparents say "Hineini" every time we celebrate Shabbat and holidays together, and I say "Hineini" by being here for them every day. Generations are an amazing thing and I can't wait to celebrate this with all of you.
