“Our hot lunch program has started with great success, and we hope you are all enjoying the new entrée options from Vicki’s lunch box. If you are bringing a lunch from home, please remember our school policy of adhering to the Temple’s Kashrut guideline that no lunch will contain pork or shellfish products. Also, please be aware if there is a peanut allergy in your classroom so that we don’t have any students placed at risk."

Today is the 19th day of the month of Elul, and Stephen S. Wise Elementary School is busy preparing for the high holidays. Every morning we begin our day with the blast of the Shofar, and this morning we had the additional presence of Cantor Lam and some of the Thursday morning minyan participants. It was a powerful start to the day for all students and adults.

We then carried this spiritual feeling into our Judaic studies classes as students are learning the prayers for the holidays and writing their personal hopes and reflections to add to the jars in their classrooms. Our school-wide Rosh Hashanah service will be on Friday, September 14 at 8:15 a.m., and all students will wear white this day for our special celebration. The following Sunday, September 23, we will gather as a community at Santa Monica Beach at 1:00 in the afternoon for Tashlich. All families are invited to bring a lunch, beach equipment, and your bag of bread crumbs as we toss our sins into the ocean, sing songs together, and once again here the Shofar. You will receive further information in an evite, a flyer, and bag for your crumbs. I truly hope you will put these events on your calendar and add to the meaning of Elul and the holidays with all of us.
