At Stephen S. Wise we are in a season of celebration, most notably with our Academic Awards Assembly last Friday, our Wildcats Sports Banquet this past Monday, and our Library Awards this Tuesday. It was wonderful to recognize student achievement in so many different areas of our curriculum. One of the highlights of our celebrations this week was our Shavuot Assembly. An awe inspiring sight was the sanctuary filled with students in their white clothes and colorful wreaths on their heads. Many had goose bumps as we watched our 6th grade Student Council “pass down” the Torah to our incoming N3 students. It was rewarding to see each class carry their bikurim to the ark, placing the fresh fruits and vegetables on the bales of hay, and having SOVA come to pick up all of the goodies. The excitement was palpable as we cheered for our 6th grade dance troupe and clapped along with our grade level songs. The students truly understood the meaning of this harvest holiday, and teachers, students and parents shared with me how great it was to observe this holiday together in an experiential way – one more opportunity to “Celebrate what’s Right!”
