One of the pillars of Stephen S. Wise Temple is to be active participants in social justice and to increase members’ awareness of our global society. We have a vibrant Social Action committee that plans our successful Mitzvah Day, works with each grade level on their Hesed project, integrates Tikkun Olam at our Purim Carnival, and is currently in the process of planning donations for Mother’s Day for women and children who are in shelters. Working closely with this adult committee is a student group of mitzvah representatives that bring the work of mitzvot into our classrooms. The students are constantly coming up with creative fundraising ideas for important causes, and right now they are in the midst of our Sova drive for Passover foods. Today was a special day for a few of these representatives who went to Children’s Hospital to deliver toys we collected at the Purim Carnival. Students and parents worked together to advertise this toy drive, gather the toys, and then bring them to children who needed a lift in their day. It is one piece of a larger education, and it is very rewarding to see our kids actively experience the joy of repairing the world.
