Aloha! Today was another wonderful day at Stephen S. Wise Elementary
as we celebrated what’s right with our student council spirit day. The
campus was awash in color as the students wore their Hawaiian shirts,
danced the hula, and enjoyed their refreshing Jamba Juice on a very hot
afternoon. While the atmosphere was festive and fun, we also had a
social action component to our day with students bringing in Tzedakah
for victims of the recent tragedy in Japan, and Jamba Juice contributing
a portion of their sales to this important cause. The fundraiser, as
well as spirit day, all came from student ideas and leadership, and this
is a key part of our elementary school. While we are teaching every
academic subject with high rigor, we are also instilling a sense of
global awareness and empowerment to all of our students to make a
difference in the world. I am proud to be a part of this daily work with
our kids, and know that when they culminate and leave our school we
will follow their leadership stories at middle/high school and as young
adults in our Jewish community.
