Judith Hendlish grew up along the east coast from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where she was born, to Boston, New Jersey and Bethesda, Maryland. She obtained a BFA from the College of the Arts in Philadelphia in 1976 and took education classes at the University of Maine while she taught in two Jewish schools there. She moved to Israel for a six month Ulpan and stayed for four years working as an artist for the Jerusalem post and several other companies in Jerusalem. Upon her return to the United States she worked in Hebrew Schools in the Washington D.C. suburbs. She settled in Los Angeles in 1987 where she became a paralegal. She got married and retired from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office when her first child was born in 1996. She has three children who have all attended Jewish Day Schools in Los Angeles.
